Bills reclaim first place in AFC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – On a wild Sunday in the NFL, the Buffalo Bills got some help from other teams, allowing them to retake first place in the conference.

The Bills were off for the second straight Sunday, since they played on Thursday night, taking down the New England Patriots.

Bills Mafia still had plenty of things to root for. The Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Jets all lost on Sunday, paving the way for Buffalo to retake first place in the AFC, and get some breathing room.

The Dolphins loss was arguably the most important for the Bills, as Miami still holds the head-to-head tiebreaker between the two division rivals. San Francisco won 33-17 over Miami, giving the Bills a one-game lead in the AFC East.

Kansas City played Cincinnati in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game. And again, it was the Bengals coming out on top. The loss moves the Chiefs back to 9-3, tying them with Buffalo. However, in that case, the Bills own the head-to-head tiebreaker, which catapults them into first in the conference.

The New York Jets also dropped a game to the Minnesota Vikings, 27 to 22, giving Buffalo a two-game advantage over Gang Green. The Jets and Bills play next Sunday, which will give Buffalo a chance to go up three games on their in-state rivals.

Another big note for the Bills is that they control their own destiny. If Buffalo wins out (5-0) in the regular season, no one can catch them. They would earn the 1-seed in the playoffs, a first round bye, and home-field advantage through to the AFC Championship game.
