ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Four years ago, Camryn Karelus made the Churchill Chili Varsity Volleyball team as a freshman. It was a little daunting at first.

“I was really nervous because I was a newbie in front of everyone and everyone was older than me,” Karelus said. “But it was really nice because all the girls were really super welcoming and everything, and everyone was just really helpful with me on the team, and it was definitely scary for the first couple of games, but easier once I kind of got into it a little bit more.”

And once Karelus did, she played a vital role in helping the squad win back-to-back section titles including the program’s first ever one in 2020. Suffice to say, her confidence grew.

“Before I used to be a super like scared player and now I’m like, everyone’s like mom on the team, and I just try and encourage the younger girls and I feel like now I’ve grown so much more as the player.”

Karelus, a National Honors Society and Foreign Langue Honors Society member, isn’t sure where she wants to go to college but has an idea of pursuit.

“I want to go into either nursing or PA program, and that’s always very demanding. Even though I’ll be playing in college most likely, school still has to find a way to come first.”

Congrats to Churchville Chili’s Camryn Karelus on being this week’s News 10 NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week!
