Syracuse Native Casey Rogers looks to make mark with Bills
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bills training camp is set to return to Pittsford next month, giving local fans a chance to see MVP Josh Allen, new players Max Hairston and Joey Bosa, and others like Syracuse native Casey Rogers who are fighting for a roster spot.
Casey’s full interview can be watched here:
Rogers expressed pride in representing upstate New York. “Just to be the representation of the state of New York, of upstate, I don’t carry that lightly,” said Rogers.
Rogers, who starred in high school lacrosse and football at Westhill, once committed to play Division I lacrosse at Syracuse with his father, Lelan Rogers, a Central New York legend. However, his passion for football led him back to the gridiron.
“Obviously, grew up playing ever since I was a little, all I can remember is having a lacrosse stick in my hand. My dad being involved and coaching at Syracuse and being as involved in the lacrosse world as he is. It was hard to put it aside,” said Rogers.
Rogers’ decision to pursue football paid off. The ‘Cuse native played college football for Nebraska (2018-2021) and Oregon (2022-2023) before debuting for the New York Giants last year, blocking a field goal in his first game. He was waived last month before being claimed by the Bills.
“One day you don’t have a job and the next day you do. So it was it was definitely kind of cool how it all how it all played out,” Rogers said.
Now back in upstate New York, Rogers will compete at Fisher during training camp, hoping to secure a spot on the Bills’ roster.
“From being up here, I understand what the Bills mean to this community, to this state. Obviously, I was raised in it. So, this is like the best case scenario for me. The perfect opportunity,” Rogers said.
