IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Jennifer Burns’s love for softball holds no bounds. And her parents have shared that commitment.

"They’ve always been, you know, driving me around everywhere," the Irondequoit High senior said. "A lot of hours in the car for sure."

It’s all paid off. Burns was an All Greater Rochester Softball honorable mention last spring. She’s played the sport since 5th grade but recently, one thing has come into the fold.

"Balance, especially with AP classes, the workload can get really tough. But as long as you plan ahead, it’s not too bad," Burns said.

Evidentially, that’s been true. Seven AP classes, dual enrollment classes at Monroe Community College, and a member of the National Honor Society. On top of that, Burns is a part of the student council, something that’s vital to her.

"I love seeing how happy it makes people, and it’s just a lot of fun, to be honest. Planning the events," Burns said.

Up next: Elmira College in the fall year but for now, she’s just enjoying the rest of high school, which for her, is making sure others can enjoy life. Congrats to Irondequoit High’s Jennifer Burns on being this week’s News10NBC Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
