ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Athletes from across the country took over the trails at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday for the 55th Annual McQuaid Invitational.
The meet is the largest high school sponsored cross-country in the nation. Twenty-six races were held throughout the park, including roughly 8,000 runners from 248 teams and 7 states.
McQuaid Invitational Director Todd Stewart says the meet has become a Rochester staple.
"Down below, we have a lot of food trucks that are making their sales. It's a taste of Rochester," said Stewart. "All of the awards that you see that we hand out are through Penfield Trophies. Our shirts are through Emerson Streetwear. It's really a chance for Rochester to put themselves on display for someone from outside the area to come see. Special event and special place."
Fourteen thousand people were estimated to be in attendance, including athletes, coaches, and spectators.
