ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- On Friday, the Rochester Americans begin their quest for the Calder Cup when they host the Toronto Marlies at Blue Cross Arena.
This will be game one of their best of five playoff series.
This is the second consecutive year that the Amerks are making a playoff appearance.
Last year, Rochester was swept in the opening round, falling in three straight games to the Syracuse crunch. This time around, Rochester is the higher seed in the match up, having earned the second seed in their division.
Despite the home ice advantage, they still understand that getting a fast start is important this time around but being able to shake off mistakes is just as crucial to their success.
"We want to get off to a good start, obviously, and so does Toronto. There's no secret on that in this short series but whatever happens, we can't look at the negatives. It is a five-game series and that's the way we have to look at it. After one shift, if they score a goal, how do we respond to that? Mistakes are going to happen but it's how we respond and how we get our heads up and do what we do," says Chris Taylor, Amerks head coach.
Game two of this best of five series will also be played in Rochester. That will take place Easter Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
