PITTSFORD MENDON, N.Y. (WHEC) -- For this year at least Pittsford, specifically Pittsford Mendon High School has the chance to be the center of the universe when it comes to high school basketball.
Both the boys and girls teams are in the state semifinals and they both hope the other team brings home the title.
Not just one sectional trophy, but two for Mendon this year.
Basketball fever for the boys and girl's team is sweeping through the school.
"A lot of them are my friends, cool to see them, growing up with them, playing with them, seeing them in the gym. We're rooting for each other," says Mendon senior basketball player Dan Cook.
"It's great. I actually have classes with some of the guys and teachers congratulate us both and hype us up," says Mendon senior basketball player Courtney Naugle.
Mendon is proving to be a family with every round that passes in the state tournament, just ask the coaches.
"The boy's team inspires us, the way they play basketball, their chemistry, the way they get along so well," says Mendon girls coach Todd Julien.
"To be just talked about in the same sentence with the girl's program, they've had such good tradition," adds Mendon boys coach Bob Nally.
What began with CYP basketball and now to the doorstep of a state championship, this is a shared journey.
"Having grown up playing with each other, now making this run it just means that much more that the girls and boys are trying to bring back hardware," says Mendon senior basketball player Will Orzell.
The semifinal game for the Mendon boys is Friday at 1 p.m.
The girls play Saturday at 11 a.m.
