Big third period vaults Amerks over Belleville in game one

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — After trailing 3-0 to start the third period the Rochester Americans grouped together for a comeback for the ages.

Lukas Rousek started a chain reaction of goals when he got the Amerks their first playoff point with under 17 minutes to play in the game.

Rochester went nearly 10 minutes before scoring again, this time being credited to Jimmy Schuldt. Less than three minutes later and Casey Fitzgerald tied it up, putting the Amerks in position to take game one after being shutout to start the period.

In overtime, the Amerks completed the comeback, striking down Belleville in a 4-3 final score.

The win gives Rochester their first playoff dub since 2014.

The two teams will face off in Belleville on Friday at 7 p.m. If Rochester wins that game, they’ll advance straight to the North Division semifinals to play Utica. If the Senators take game two, the teams will play a win-or-go-home game three in Belleville on Sunday at 3 p.m.
