Bills begin search for new offensive coordinator

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — Brian Daboll is in the past, and Buffalo moving forward means getting someone to replace the former Bills OC turned New York Giants head coach.

It’s been a while since Buffalo produced some of the hottest coaches on the market and in turn opened up a top notch job.

But that’s the reality now as the Bills are in the process of finding a replacement to Brian Daboll’s offensive coordinator position.

Daboll, held the OC job in Orchard Park from 2018-21, the longest tenured coach in that position since Tom Bresnahan in the early to mid 1990s. Bresnahan of course, helped lead the Bills to multiple Super Bowls. Daboll is credited with elevating current QB Josh Allen to elite stardom.

The top option to take that job is Ken Dorsey, the current Bills quarterbacks coach. Allen has publicly stated his approval of Dorsey, but given Dorsey’s allegiance to Daboll, he could opt to follow him to New York.

The Bills have reportedly interviewed two wide receiver’s coaches: Baltimore’s Tee Martin and Las Vegas’ Edgar Bennett.

Martin has helped develop Hollywood Brown into a star, even with Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson, who is more widely known for his ability to juke defenders in the open field compared to his passing game.

Martin was previously an offensive coordinator at USC from 2016-18.

Bennett, meanwhile, has had some more polished NFL success, serving as the OC for the Green Bay Packers from 2015-17. He’s been the WR coach for the Raiders since 2018, who have developed many projects from that group in recent years.

One positive of both of those coaches are the players who could follow along. One of the Bills needs is more speed in the wide receiver group, and someone to spell the aging Cole Beasley.

Baltimore’s Brown and Las Vegas’ Hunter Renfrow would both be good candidates for those roles and will both be entering the final years of their contracts this upcoming season.

It is unknown when Buffalo will make a decision, but for now, a few positive options are on the table.
