ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — After opting out of the 2020 season, Buffalo Bills DT Star Lotulelei returned to practice for the first on Tuesday for the first day of mandatory minicamp.
Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott says it's great to see Lotulelei back in his element. However, because he hasn’t been around the team since the end of the 2019 season, Lotulelei does have some catching up to do.
"There's definitely been a gap in terms of his playing of late. He can help us. We all know that. It's just that he's gonna have to continue to put the work in to get himself back, acclimated, comfortable," McDermott said.
"He's been moving around really well, and I think the year was good for his body. I think that he's completely healed up. He's gonna be really fresh for us," said Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
"Having that time away helped physically, mentally. Even though it was unfortunate I couldn't be here for the guys, I don't regret my decision. I made it based on what I felt was the right decision for myself, my wife and my kids," Lotulelei said.
While it was nice to have extra family time, it was hard for Lotulelei to watch the Bills' success last season from afar.
"I didn't watch every game just because it was a little tough, especially that last game, but I was happy for the outcome they had last year. I'm looking forward to this season," Lotulelei said.
Lotulelei is happy to return – and his teammates are happy to have him back.
