ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Buffalo Bills returned to the practice field in Orchard Park Tuesday, before earning an off day Wednesday.

They had their first padded practice of training camp, which means real football is closer than ever.

"This day never changes, right?” said Head Coach Sean McDermott. “First day in pads since the time you put on pads, however old you were. For me, it was seven or eight years old. Always wake up in a little bit of a different mood on the first day of pads. And it doesn’t seem to change when you’re coaching. It’s always a certain mindset that you wake up with."

The intensity is picking up and you may ask yourself, with all that goes on at practice, how does McDermott know where to be and when? How does he manage it all?

"You can take a look at this," McDermott said. "It’s my practice schedule. It has handwritten notes all over it already for where I need to be, what I need to keep my eyes on, especially the first day of pads so I’m making sure — I mean, let’s be honest, I kind of work as the official, the referee out here — so I wanna make sure that we get what we need to get but also that we’re taking care of each other at the same time."
