IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WHEC) — A national hockey power is growing on the ice Bishop Kearney is now offering boys select hockey and those players were on the ice Tuesday.

Kearney already has a dominant girls program with athletes who live on campus and these boys will mirror that program.

Former NHL standout Ryan Callahan came home as the Director of Development for the Kearney boys program and is thrilled with the turn in his career.

"That's what I've enjoyed the most, being on the ice with the kids, just trying to share a little bit of my knowledge of the game, from things I see on video to what I see in practice. I'm just another coach now, not an NHLer, I told them not to look at me differently." Callahan said.

"It's incredible really, usually kids are traveling six hours to get recognized and I'm 10 minutes from home," player Owen King said. "Just coming out with such great hockey players I feel like I'm taking the next step."
