ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Brighton's Ernie Clement made the cut for the 60-man roster of the Cleveland Indians, it was announced Sunday.
Clement, a shortstop, has been preparing for the season in the Rochester area ever since the coronavirus pandemic shut down Major League training camps in March. While he is not on the Indians' initial 40-man roster that will be used in Major League games, he is part of an alternate training squad that could be drawn from to replace players lost due to injury or other roster moves. That squad will be training at the site of Cleveland's Lake County minor league affiliate.
Some teams have still not released their rosters. Among them are the Chicago White Sox, who may call upon Pittsford native Danny Mendick, and the Rochester Red Wings' parent club, the Minnesota Twins.
