Scholar Athlete of the Week (9/26): Dennis Swetz

September 26, 2017 06:32 PM

"I want to do the best that I can, but it's not about me, it's about making Sectionals, I just want to win," says Dennis Swetz.

And so far Dennis Swetz has helped his team do a lot of winning. The Churchville-Chili football team is in second place in their division and primed for a spot in Sectionals. Somewhere the Saints are yet to reach since Dennis joined the team.

He's the captain on both the football and basketball teams, but Dennis says football is his favorite sport.

"I'm more passionate about it, been playing since I was six years old," he says. "Basketball is fun, but I don't get the jitters and butterflies before games; you only get seven and each win is more special."

Also special is Dennis's work in the classroom. He's reached the highest honor roll in every quarter while in high school and was given the RPI Award for Excellence in math and science -- certainly someone who people can look up to.

"I like being the important guy on the team, everybody looks up to me," he says. "I love helping everybody out, I like being the guy that people look up to."

Congratulations Dennis Swetz, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
