BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) — Buffalo Bills fans will be required to get a COVID-19 vaccine to go to games at Highmark Stadium in 2021, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced Tuesday.

In a press conference, Poloncarz announced that Erie County supports returning all fans to Highmark Stadium in the fall and that the best way to do that is to make sure all fans and staff are vaccinated.

Poloncarz said one way to do that is to download the "Excelsior Pass" app that will show COVID-19 test and vaccination records for venues to scan upon entry. The app is available for Android and iOS.

Poloncarz said this also applies to Buffalo Sabres games at the KeyBank Center.

When asked about the Erie County Executive's decision during a press conference on Wednesday, Cuomo did not say that he would be implementing the same policy at the state level. He said he believed the idea was "not legally correct" and said the state would have to sign off on any plans. He also said he thinks it's too early to make a decision.
