ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester's Isaiah Stewart made history Wednesday night when he was drafted sixteenth overall in the NBA Draft.
That's the highest ever that someone from Rochester has been drafted, and he was one of the best prospects in the country.
Stewart was initially drafted by Portland but the draft rights were traded to the Detroit Pistons.
Isaiah Stewart is drafted 16th overall (highest ever for someone from Rochester) by Portland, the rights to that pick were sent to Detroit. Congrats on going to the NBA for @Dreamville_33!!!!— Rich Donnelly (@whec_rdonnelly) November 19, 2020
He was a star at McQuaid, and went on to become an All-American before heading off to the University of Washington for just one year.
He also made a point to represent his city with social initiatives like his event Don't Shut up and Dribble, where athletes dribbled basketballs for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in memory of George Floyd.
