ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — COVID-19 has sidelined a handful of players but it's not the only issue a team can face.

A little less than a month ago, the Rochester Americans lost Jack Quinn to mononucleosis, leaving them without one of their premier players. But Wednesday night, he'll lace up the skates again.

Quinn is set to return to the ice as the Amerks host the Syracuse Comets, the team he played his last game against on Nov. 27 before going down.

Even with the missed time, Quinn's 24 points are the third most on the team. Eleven of those are goals, the second most behind Michael Mersch.

He says it might take him a game or two to get back to where he was physically but Seth Appert isn't worried.

"Our first team meeting on a practice day is 10:10 in the morning," Appert said. "He's here by about 8:30. He's putting in work, he's not just hanging out: extra work in the weight room, extra work in anything with his conditioning, extra work in the shooting room. So, I have zero worries about the way he would come back because of how he trains and how he takes care of himself."

Rochester heads into Wednesday’s game just five points behind the Comets for the division lead.
