Jim Boeheim wants Dome mask mandate lifted by Saturday’s Duke game

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim has never been afraid to speak his mind, especially pertaining to non-basketball related topics at hand.

The latest revolves around the mask mandate. Syracuse basketball still requires fans attending games inside the Dome to put on a mask, unless eating or drinking. The rules are some of the strictest in college athletics.

And those were Boeheims exact feelings postgame after a 74-73 overtime win over Georgia Tech on Monday.

“Hopefully, we can be like the rest of the country and come in here without masks Saturday, but I guess we just can’t do that," Boeheim said.

Of course, Boeheim’s stance on this certainly revolves around the experience of the Duke game. Some people have the opinion that wearing a mask during the game to less of the usual excitement.

When the Blue Devils come to town, excitement and fan attendance are always at all-time highs.

Syracuse University has yet to comment on if the restriction will be lifted on time for the next home game.

The Orange and Blue Devils will tip off at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
