ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The rebuilding of the Sabres gained a significant step with the hiring of Jason Karmanos as the associate general manager in Buffalo, but his duties will have a direct effect on Rochester as well.
Karmanos will also be the general manager of the Rochester Americans.
He has an extensive background with more than 20 years of front office experience with multiple teams.
His role within the Sabres organization will focus on scouting, player development and an analytics department.
Thursday Karmanos said that you can never have too many quality players on the roster.
"The basic idea of having depth in your organization is something that's contributed to all three Stanley Cup teams that I've been a part of," Karmanos said. "Depth throughout the lineup, even in goal, seems to be that most Stanley Cup winners use at least a couple of goalies through the process to get all the way."
Karmanos said consistency will be the key to get there.
"There needs to be consistency in what you're looking for, players that you acquire in the draft and that should be aligned with the types of players you're looking to acquire through free agency and trades," Karmanos said. "Building an identity that's clear that your staff members understand."
