Matthew LeCroy back as Red Wings manager

ROCHESTER, NY. (WHEC) — Matthew LeCroy will be back for a second season as manager of the Rochester Red Wings, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

It’ll be LeCroy’s 14th year in the Nationals’ organization as a whole. Before coming to Rochester, he climbed the ranks, serving as Single-A manager for Hagerstown and Potomac, and Double-A manager with Harrisburg.

LeCroy struggled in year one, as the Red Wings finished 49-77, second-to-last out of the 30 teams that play in Triple-A. However, it came with as many challenges as anyone in the minors. COVID forced a lot of player movement, and LeCroy had to manage a franchise-record 77 different players throughout the season.

LeCroy and the Red Wings also announced their staff. Former Philadelphia Phillies Director of Pitching Development, Rafael Chaves, will be the Red Wings’ Pitching Coach. Billy McMillon, who managed the Worcester Red Sox to a 74-54 record, will be the Developmental Coach.

Brian Daubach, Eric Montague, and Mike Warren all return to their roles of Hitting Coach, Athletic Trainer, & Strength and Conditioning Coach respectively.

The 2022 season starts on April 5 when the Red Wings visit Toledo.
