ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The high school basketball sectional tournaments tip-off tomorrow. The quest for a sectional championship has become a record-setting journey for two teammates at Northstar Christian Academy.
"He hit like three in a row and I knew he was hot for the rest of the night," Northstar’s Sean Smith said.
Earlier this season, Northstar Christian's Ryan Garwood set a Section V record when he made 13 three-pointers in a single game.
"It's a whole different feeling, every time you shot the ball or catch the ball you feel like it's going to go in every single time, so much confidence when you make a few, the rest go in," Ryan, a sophomore at Northstar, said.
But Ryan will be the first one to tell you that he couldn't have broken that record by himself, his teammate Sean Smith is chasing his own record... he's just two assists shy of the single-season assists record at Northstar.
"Every time I was just looking for him and I knew it, he was hot and I was looking for your teammate, especially one of your good friends," Sean said.
Good friends that have been teammates since seventh grade.
"We have amazing chemistry, good friends on and off the court, it goes from practice into games," Ryan said.
The duo has been great on the court so far, Northstar only has one loss heading into sectionals and they're lead by the record seeking pair... Ryan and Sean.
"It's either me or him and we go to work,” Sean said. “I just see a couple plays in advance, it's instinct."
Northstar is the 2 seed in the A2 bracket and has a bye in the first round of sectionals. Their first game is Saturday night at home against the winner of Northeast Douglass and Monroe.
