Red Wings Fall To Mets; In Danger Of Dropping Third Straight Series

ROCHESTER, NY (WHEC) – Despite how the last three weeks have gone, Matt LeCroy only has positive things to say about his team.

"I’m proud of the group," the manager said. "We’re a little banged up, which is fine because it gives other people opportunities to step up and play and you know, hopefully we’ll get it going tomorrow and then get on a nice streak."

Tomorrow would be the start of a new one after Rochester fell, 5-4 at the hands of the Syracuse Mets on Saturday evening. The loss occurs a night after the Wings came within 90 feet of tying the game in the 9th inning. Tonight, down by a run in the final frame, they put the go-ahead runs in scoring position with two outs. Immediately after, Jake Noll grounded into a force out, dropping Rochester for the third time this series and the thirteenth time in the last seventeen games.

"The last two nights haven’t gone our way," LeCroy said. "We we took a lead there late, and we gave it back up in the eighth. That’s just the way the last few weeks have gone for us."

Down 3-0 in the 3rd, Andrew Stevenson drove in Rochester’s first run of the game on a triple. He’d tie things up at 3 two innings later on an RBI single, adding to what’s been a scorching series for the 2nd year Red Wing. In 23 at bats, he has ten hits and 6 RBI, raising his season average to .313 and OPS to .855. However, it wasn’t enough to stop Travis Blankenhorn, who homered for the second straight night and drove in four of Syracuse’s five runs.

The Red Wings and Mets close out the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm from Frontier Field as Rochester looks to avoid dropping its third consecutive series.
