ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— The Rochester Red Wings now have a new major league parent team, please welcome: The Washington Nationals.

The partnership was announced in a Thursday news release from Senator Chuck Schumer, who previously pushed Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred to quickly announce a new affiliate for the Wings.

The partnership appears to have been confirmed by the team in a tweet.

The Nationals become the fourth major league team the Wings will partner with, as its previous 17-year stint as the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins came to an end earlier this month. The team also previously partnered with the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Baltimore Orioles respectively.

News10NBC caught up with Red Wings President Naomi Silver Wednesday afternoon and she said that Sen. Chuck Schumer was very involved in the process of keeping the Red Wings in AAA.

Silver said that the senator's office called the Red Wings to say that Sen. Schumer was going to meet with the commissioner of Major League Baseball and asked if the Wings had a message for the senator to pass along to the commissioner.

"It's important to us with Rochester's long tradition of AAA baseball that we are able to maintain a AAA affiliation," Silver said. "Not every ball club in the country is going to keep the same level of affiliation that they have, there are a lot of changes that are occurring. That was a little worrisome. I think anything that the senator might have said to push it over the top, we're grateful for."
