Scholar Athlete of the Week: Rebekah Preisser

October 02, 2018 07:00 PM

The distance between Pittsford Sutherland High School and Mendon Ponds Park is a little more than five miles or, as this week's News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week puts it, the distance of an average day of cross country practice.

"I zone out when I run. I usually run at Mendon Ponds Park so I look at the trees, the trails. I'm kind of in a daze the whole time," exclaimed Rebekah Preisser.

Being in a daze during practice works for the Pittsford Sutherland senior who is one of the best distance runners in Section V.

She's qualified for the state cross country meet four times and is a two-time first team all Section V runner, and plans to compete at the D1 level next year, but she says her greatest accomplishment was winning the unseeded large school race at the McQuaid invitational.

"It was really special. I didn't think I'd have a chance at winning, but everything clicked and I took off. I took a lot of chances in that race and they all went in my favor," added Preisser.

When she's not running, the National Honor Society member likes to play the ukulele, but when you run over 400 miles in a summer like Rebekah, running kind of dominates your schedule.

"I've always loved running, the feeling of accomplishment after a race, after a hard workout is unlike any sport that I played."

News10NBC can't wait to see where Rebekah races off to next.

Congratulations Rebekah Preisser, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide family of dealerships.
