Athletes play to win the game; and the best ones are remembered forever.
This week's Scholar Athlete is not only great at her sport, but is guaranteeing that her teammates will have memories for a lifetime.
"I love being a leader, but I also love helping people."
Bailey McCormick lived up to that statement this fall. The Newark senior set the record for shutouts in a season as the goalie for the Newark girl's soccer team.
"A lot of my success comes from my teammate's success," says Bailey. "We really win because we all have each other's back and we can't get shutouts without the team."
And what a team it was.
Newark advanced to the sectional final for the first time in 20 years, an accomplishment that will be well documented at Newark and that's because Bailey is the editor of the yearbook.
"It's a lot of fun, just being able to tell stories. Not to give too much away, but our theme is the stories that you don't really see," adds Bailey. "It's cool that it'll mean something in 20-30 years."
Bailey is also the president of the student council and next year she plans to study biomedical science in college.
"I love learning, opening my eyes to new things. I think it's fascinating to see knowledge come together where so much of it we're still learning."
Congratulations Bailey McCormick , the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the IDE Family of Dealerships.
