Hilton senior Linzee Reyes has been having a good time playing basketball for a few years now.
"I take every opportunity, especially for basketball," says Reyes. "Each game I'm like, I'm never going to be able to play this ever again, so I put my heart into it and have a good time."
As a member of the varsity team since she was a sophomore, Reyes views herself as a role model for younger girls in the community.
"When I was that age, I looked up to the girls on varsity and thought they were super stars. They're so amazing. They can jump high, they can block, so for me to be able to portray that to the younger generation, I want to set a mark and push myself so they see that hard work pay off."
Reyes has lofty goals for her team this year and hopes to make a run through sectionals. However, the National Honor Society member also has a lofty standard that she sets for herself.
She's been on the high honor roll all four years of high school and is heavily involved in volunteer activities.
"When I'm not doing sports, I feel like I should be doing things for the community that gave so much to me," adds Reyes.
That's an athlete who's right on the mark.
Congratulations Linzee Reyes, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the IDE Family of Dealerships.
