Remember when you were a little kid and you looked up to an athlete and said you wanted to be like them when you grew up?
This week's Scholar Athlete not only had those feelings, but is now living his dream.
"Growing up I would always go to the football and basketball games in elementary and middle school," says Patrick Meisenzahl. "There's certain names growing up that you remember; that's inspired me to hopefully be like one of those kids for the younger kids."
Meisenzahl is leaving his mark on Greece Athena sports, and his success in those sports is leaving a mark on younger kids watching him play.
"A couple weeks ago, I went to the middle school for tutoring and I saw a kid in the hallway who said, 'That's Patrick Meisenzahl' and that was kind of cool to see some kids do look up to me like that."
Kids may look up to Patrick for helping the Trojans win their first football Sectional title in more than three decades last year, or for reaching the basketball Sectional final two years in a row, but they'll also find that the National Honor Society member is an even bigger winner in the classroom.
"My parents always stressed the importance of school and all of the coaches and teachers stress that too," Patrick tells us. "Athletics are important, but coaches say grades come first."
Congratulations to Patrick Meisenzahl, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week, presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
