Scholar Athlete of the Week: Sarah Petz

November 28, 2018 08:14 AM

Caring for others is an important trait, be it sports or everyday life. And caring for her teammates as well as people in the community earned Webster Thomas senior Sarah Petz this week's honor as News10NBC's Scholar Athlete of the Week.

"I'm very shy and everyone knows that about me," says Webster Thomas senior Sarah Petz.

But things change very quickly when a net is involved.

"When it comes to volleyball, I'm a communicator on the court," Petz added.

Petz is being humble.

The only returning starter for the Webster Thomas volleyball team was the captain this year and the libero for the Titans.

"You need to know where everyone is and you need to communicate with the setter, hitter where the open spots are on the court, the libero is the most important player on the court."

Petz is also preparing for an important career.

She currently spends her mornings with the New Visions program at St. Anne's Community where she's getting a hands-on experience in what it's like to be a nurse.

"You do a lot of medical rotations and work with patients, follow a mentor, and gives you an idea about what it's like to be a nurse," added Petz. "I love interacting with patients."

After this experience, she plans to study nursing in college.

Congratulations Sarah Petz, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
