Patrolling the back line of Brighton's defense is Wizzy Callahan, slicing apart her opponent's offense with surgical precision.
This of course is fitting because the Brighton senior wants to study biology in college to one day work in the medical research field. This career path started because she saw her dad go through a stroke when she was in the eighth grade.
"It opened a new door to me and I saw the doctors and he way they were able to help him," said Callahan.
Helping others is important to Callahan.
As a senior and captain on the team, she puts a strong emphasis on being a leader for her teammates, even if she's not the one lighting up the scoreboard.
"I think it's easier to display leadership when you're not the one getting the headlines," Callahan.added."You don't need to be the one scoring the goals to be a leader, good player or teammate"
When she's not helping Brighton win field hockey games, she keeps busy with multiple AP classes and is the president of her class.
She also oversaw the senior class float for the Brighton homecoming parade.
Yes, it was a little too tall.
After Wonder Woman collided with some traffic lights, there's now a height limit for floats at Brighton, taking soaring to new heights to a whole new level.
Congratulations Wizzy Callahan, the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the IDE Family of Dealerships.
