Scholar Athlete of the Week (11/14): Ty Carpenter

November 14, 2017 06:45 PM

There are varying degrees of toughness in sports. Some of the toughest athletes are not just those who can stay in the game, but those who battle back from injuries to once again get back on the field.

"I like to think of it as a big challenge because life's full of challenges," says Ty Carpenter.

Hilton's Ty Carpenter suffered a nasty shoulder injury that ended his football season early this year.

"I'm expecting a lot of physical therapy to make sure that I'm back to 100 percent," he says. "I just like to think it could be worse, I could have had my shoulder completely blown out, whereas I'm able to recover from this and be back at full speed."

Ty will have to be patient over the winter and not rush the physical therapy process. He doesn't want this injury to affect his lacrosse season. "The individual goal for me is getting my shoulder back and ready. Team goal is getting everyone together in the right mindset to commit to the right course."

A course that Ty hopes results in a Sectional championship. "All that hard work preparing my shoulder, all that lifting, running and team bonding wouldn't be for nothing," he says. "It would mean a lot."

We look forward to seeing you back on the field, Ty, and congratulations on being named the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week presented by Nixon Peabody and the Ide Family of Dealerships.
