Syracuse, N.Y. - The most challenging schedule in recent memory awaits the 2018 Syracuse men’s lacrosse team, with the Orange set to face nine teams ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s preseason poll, and 11 of Syracuse’s 13 opponents starting the year in the top-30.
Coming off a year where the Orange set the program record for one-goal games, fans will get plenty of opportunities to experience the Carrier Dome’s excitement, with nine home dates highlighting the schedule.
Syracuse will begin the season against Binghamton on Feb. 10, to kick off a slate of three-straight home dates to open the year. No. 2 Albany will be Syracuse’s first ranked test of the season on Feb. 17, before No. 17 Army West Point comes to town. ‘Cuse is looking to avenge a loss to the Cadets from last season.
The first road game is also the first conference foe, with Syracuse traveling to No. 16 Virginia on Sunday, March 4. That matchup has been consistently competitive, with Syracuse having won three-straight contests with the Hoos, to take a 17-16 lead in the all-time series.
Longtime rival No. 11 Johns Hopkins will visit the Carrier Dome for the first time since 2015 on Saturday, March 10. The squads have played consecutive overtime games at Homewood Field in each of the last two seasons prior to this year’s matchup, with senior attackman Brendan Bomberry delivering the winner last season.
No. 7 Rutgers returns to the Syracuse schedule for the first time since 2013. ‘Cuse will visit High Point Solutions Stadium on Sunday, March 18. Then it’ll be a second-straight road test, when ‘Cuse travels to No. 1 Duke on March 24. ‘Cuse is 11-6 all-time against the Blue Devils and won last year’s contest on a Jamie Trimboli overtime goal.
No. 6 Notre Dame comes to ‘Cuse on March 31 to close out the month. The Orange won last year’s matchup with a late defensive stand in the waning moments, but the Irish won convincingly in their last trip to the Carrier Dome, setting up another tough ACC test in 2018.
Back-to-back mid-week games against two of the sports oldest rivals open the month of April. Syracuse and Hobart will meet for the Kraus-Simmons trophy on Tuesday, April 3. It’s the 104th meeting between the two programs. The Orange will then head to Cornell a week later for the 103rd game in the series with the Big Red.
No. 10 North Carolina will visit the Dome to close ACC play after the two teams split their regular season matchups last year. That game will take place on April 14.
The penultimate regular season game is another newcomer to the Carrier Dome. No. 22 Navy and Syracuse will meet for the first time since the 2004 NCAA Championship game, which Syracuse won 14-13, on April 21, to lead into the ACC Tournament.
The ACC Tournament will return to Virginia this season, with two semifinals taking place on Friday, April 27, and the title game slated for Noon on April 29.
Syracuse will then close out the regular season on May 5 against Colgate, in what will be Senior Day in the Dome.
Season tickets remain the best option for catching all the action. Fans can see all-nine contests for just $65 for adults and $35 for youth. Season tickets are on sale through Cuse.com/Tickets, by calling 888-DOME-TIX or visiting the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
The Orange will begin the year with a squad that returns 17 players who saw action in 10-or-more games last season, including six players from its top of the depth chart last year.
