GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Joe Girard III, New York state's all-time leading scorer in high school basketball, has committed to play for the Syracuse Orange.
Girard, a senior at Glens Falls High School, announced his verbal commitment to Syracuse on Sunday night. He had whittled his list to a handful of schools, which also included Duke, Boston College, Penn State, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
Girard, who was recruited by Orange assistant Gerry McNamara, has 3,306 career points. He is the only New York state high school player to surpass 3,000 points and still has one season to play. As a junior, Girard had 1,149 points and made 179 3-pointers, both state records, while averaging 50 points in 23 games.
