VICTOR, NY (WHEC) — The Victor Blue Devils are searching for lacrosse state titles - on the boys and girls sides.

Both programs are nationally ranked by USA Lacrosse Magazine, a high-school, college, and pro lacrosse service. In the latest rankings, which came out on May 10, the girls came in at fourth with the boys not too far behind at 11th.

“There’s a little banter between the boys and girls teams. Healthy banter though," said Kennedy Schottland, a senior and the goalie for the girls team.

She and the rest of the lady Blue Devils are 13-1, with the latest win coming on senior night on Wednesday.

The boys have yet to lose, with a perfect 13-0 record as the postseason is right around the corner.

"We played together since we were in youth. Best friends. We hang outside of lacrosse. On and off the field we’re always doing things together and that team chemistry helps a lot," said Louie Germain, a senior on the boys squad.

The chemistry each of these teams presents is no understatement. Germain and Schottland said the majority of their respective teams have been practicing and playing lacrosse with each other since as young as Kindergarten. And all of that is a part of the system that Victor youth athletics has in place.

"This year in particular we have an explosion of kids at the K-2 level. That’s starting to regenerate itself. That’s where the backbone of any program comes from is the youth," said Dan Stone, who is in his second year as head coach of the boys team, but has spent roughly two decades with the program.

As both teams enter the postseason as favorites to win Section V titles, one thing remains constant.

"We’ve known each other forever and this is something we’ve wanted as long as we can remember and that motivation has really pushed us to where we are now," said Schottland.

The bond these teams have is unmatched. And it's carrying them to extraordinary heights.
