Update: The Rochester Police Department has identified the victim who died as 27-year-old Jameik Foster Sr. from Rochester. He was rushed to URMC where he died shortly after arrival from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

On Sunday August 21, 2022, at about 2:30 am the Rochester Police Department responded to 547 State St. for a report of multiple people being shot. Officers arrived and found a large crowd leaving from the 500 block of State Street.

Two gunshot victims were found in the crowd. The first victim was Foster. The second victim was a man in his 30’s and he was shot in the lower body. He was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

A hot dog cart worker in 30’s was working at the corner of Lyell Ave and State St and was stabbed after
the gunfire. It is unknown at this time if this stabbing was directly connected to the double shooting.

During the preliminary investigation it was determined that a non-sanctioned “after-hours party” was
being hosted at the Burrito Urbana Restaurant located at 547 State St. Several customers were outside
when an argument occurred, resulting in gunshots being fired and the two victims being shot.

The Major Crimes Unit is conducting the investigation and is asking anybody with information to call
911, the Major Crimes Unit @ 585-428-7157, Crime Stoppers @ 585-423-9300, or email

“First of all our heart goes out to anyone who has to witness this tonight or any act of violence that we face here, whether it’s in the city or another city,” RPD Capt. Ryan Tauriello said. “We want people to, if they did see something, obviously to come forward and let us know what they saw and what they know and that would be helpful to us.”
