ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off Saturday night with a concert at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Event organizers say it’s exciting to spread education around Latino culture. The event had musicians, and great food. Roc’n Ritmo took the stage to perform live music.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, each year, a month-long program is put on to celebrate the generations of Hispanic, and Latino Americans who have positively influenced the Rochester community. There will be events all month long going into October. Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation, Hispanic Heritage Celebration Day and the Hispanic Heritage block party. Event organizers say these events open doors to educational conversations.

“To have that education piece bringing people over who may not be exposed to our food, to try something different it always warms my heart to watch someone try something I loved growing up and they try it and say oh my god this is amazing , that’s the reaction I like because it opens doors for people to learn who we are,” Orlando Ortiz said, an event organizer.
