The tentative contract agreement between General Motors and the United Auto Workers union appears to be headed for defeat. The union hasn’t posted final vote totals yet, but workers at five large factories who finished voting in the past few days have turned down the four year and eight month deal by fairly large margins. ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The United Auto Workers Union members in Rochester have already made their voices heard. UAW Local 1097, which represents employees at the local GM plant, says members have voted in favor of the new contract.
The vote passed with 95% of production workers and 65% of skilled trade workers saying yes. The results are now tabulated into the nationwide vote, which if approved, allows the new contract to take effect on Monday.
