City man arrested for September murder of 65-year-old woman

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – On September 24 Rochester police were called to Pearce St. for the report of a woman found dead in the alley. When officers arrived, they found 65-year-old Mary Simzer, a City resident, clearly deceased and the victim of a murder and sexual assault. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck area.

As a result of the investigation, City resident, 54-year-old Ronald Lagasse was identified as the suspect. He was taken into custody on Saturday on Durkin Alley. Lagasse has been charged with murder. Additional charges may be presented to a Monroe County Grand Jury by the Monroe County District Attorneys Office.

Lagasse will be arraigned on Sunday. He is a level 3 sex offender as the result of a rape conviction in 1997.
