UPDATE: Petroleum spill in Seneca Lake has been contained

GENEVA, N.Y. – The City of Geneva officials on Monday said the petroleum spill that happened at the north end of Seneca Lake has been contained.

The city says a container on the property, which held up to 250 gallons of petroleum material, was left open leading to the spill on Saturday.

The Geneva Fire Department, the State Department of Environmental Conservation, and their contract workers contained the spill. The DEC will continue to investigate.

The City of Geneva was notified of a spill of materials into the north end of Seneca Lake on Saturday. The City of Geneva Police, Fire, and Public Works departments is working with the Department of Environmental Conservation to investigate what caused the spill, and clean up the petroleum that was spilled.
