VICTOR, N.Y. – We’re just days away from the official start of the Holiday Shopping season, and area malls are putting plans in place to help keep you safe. News10NBC was at Eastview Mall where Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies will be doing extra patrols this holiday season.
While both mall security, and deputies, will be visible here at the mall you are urged to do your part to keep yourself from becoming a victim. It’s the calm before the Black Friday storm. Eastview mall is expecting close to a million shoppers this year, and that also brings out people looking to prey on customers.
There’s some things you can do to lessen your chances of becoming a victim. Don’t leave personal belongings out in plain sight in your vehicle. Keep a close watch on the shopping bags you’re toting around, and put your purchases in the trunk of your car. Other ways to protect yourself. Don’t flash wads of cash as you shop.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is increasing its presence both inside, and outside the mall, patrolling on bicycles in the parking lot to help keep customers safe.
Deputy Conor Boyer tells us, “If you, for any reason, do not feel safe, or you think that something is suspicious, that’s why we’re here to assist with that. You can contact mall security, or sheriff’s deputies, and we’ll be able to assist you with whatever you need. Even if it’s something like walking out to your vehicle, you don’t feel safe. That’s what we’re here for.”
We asked Wilmorite, which owns the Mall at Greece Ridge, about security there. The company directed us to Greece Police, and we are waiting to hear back from them.
