ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local organizations are working to make sure people don’t lose out on healthcare because of their race or financial status.
Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield and other non-profits told us about how they take on health disparities. They say data shows racial and ethnic minorities continue to have poor health outcomes and lower quality of care.
“It is critical that we insure that everyone has an opportunity to have optimal health,” said Dr. Gina Cuyler, the vice president of equity, community investment for BCBS. “This is one way that we can contribute to that- not only through the mission of our organization.”
Some of the non-profits with Excellus were Empire Justice Center, the YMCA and Aenon Missionary Baptist Church.
