ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Multiple businesses in Wyoming County have been wiped out by a devastating fire. It took around 100 firefighters from 15 companies to get the fire under control.

It started Wednesday overnight at the Finger Lakes Hay and Straw in Arcade. Fire crews say they fought the fire for nine and a half hours using 12 tankers as well as other heavy equipment.

At least one building and multiple vehicles were destroyed.

“It’s a big metal building it acts like an oven so when you trap all that heat inside,” said neighbor John Cope.

“You come here and you watch your work go to Hell, excuse my French, and everything is gone,” said Gary Smith, a manager at Step by Step Custom Millworks.

There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire. Officials say it caused $1.5 million in damage.
