First Alert Weather: Feeling like Fall to begin September

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It is a cool and comfortable start to the first day of September and that weather will continue as we ring in the new month.

Autumn air has moved in locally and will remain in place for Thursday. Highs in the afternoon will only make their way into the low 70s, with some struggling to make it out of the upper 60s.

Sunshine will also continue through Thursday as we dry out from Wednesday’s late lake effect rain showers. If you are not a big fan of the fall weather, don’t worry because temperatures are expected to rebound starting Friday.

Highs for Friday afternoon will once again reach the low and mid 80s before returning to the mid and upper 80s by Saturday. Sunshine will continue through the remainder of the week and into Saturday before our shower chances increase Sunday.

A cold front will swing through on Sunday with a few rain showers possible across our region. Uncertainty arises afterward and into Labor Day. The models are inconsistent on whether this front will swing through and clear the region quickly for Monday, or stick around and bring us a few showers during the afternoon.

However based on recent trends, it does look like an isolated shower will be possible as models have continued to slow the progression of this front. This does not mean we will see a washout for Labor Day, but we will have to be mindful of a few showers popping up in the afternoon.
