ROCHESTER, N.Y. – When it comes to revenue, airport Director Andy Moore said Frontier’s numbers just weren’t where they needed to be, so that’s why the company decided to end its operations locally.
Rochester isn’t the only airport Frontier is parting with.
“They’ve left six other airports recently, even airports much larger than ours, so it’s just kind of the nature of the business these days,” Moore said.
Since 2021, Frontier has been flying round trip between Rochester and Orlando and Rochester and Tampa in the winter months, two to three times a week. However, that’s all coming to a halt in a few months.
“Frontier had about 5 percent of our total enplanement, so it will have a little bit of an impact,” said Moore. “But as we start to move through the summer months and the airlines start to pick up more flights, there’s more activity. Our busiest months of the year are typically July and August. I think we’ll make up that difference pretty quickly,” he said.
Frequent Frontier passengers said the airline was much more affordable than other options and the experience was memorable and they’re disappointed to see them go.
“I was flying out of Huntsville to go to Orlando and I was just looking for a cheap flight to get down there and decided to fly Frontier and it was amazing,” said Cortney McNett. “I mean no issues. It was just like a normal flight. Actually, it was probably one of the best landings that I’ve had in all of my times of flying, so it was a really good experience. I really enjoyed Frontier.”
Frontier will officially stop flying out of Rochester May 9th.
Moore said in the meantime they are hoping to recruit more airlines.
