ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police said that Cahj’miere Robinson is the name of the 17-year-old who was killed in a double shooting on Sunday morning. The Rochester City School District said he was a student.

A 16-year-old boy was the other victim in the shooting outside the Thomas Ryan Recreation Center on Webster Avenue. He is expected to survive and remains in stable condition at the U of R Medical Center.

The Rochester Police Department responded at around 2 a.m. after getting calls for gunfire. Officers first found the 16-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the face. Then, officers found Robinson, who was shot multiple times in the upper body. He died at the scene.

RCSD superintendent Dr. Carmine Peluso said he was Robinson’s principal when he attended School No. 34. Here is Peluso’s full statement:

“I am incredibly saddened to start the school year mourning the passing of our student Cahj’mere Robinson. I was Cahj’mere’s principal when he attended School 34, and I extend my sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Our Trauma, Illness, and Grief team is at the school to assist our students and staff.”

Investigators determined that the victims were hanging out in the park at the rec center with a group of friends, when at least one person approached them and began shooting. There are no suspects in custody and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 911.
