ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A mother relives the horrific moments when she tried to save her son’s life after he was shot. Sunday, police identified the man who was shot and killed on East Main Street on Saturday. He was 30-year-old Ordie Overton Jr.

“I heard the shots, I heard like six or seven shots, I jumped up and I called my sons name, I said “Duda”, I ran in the room, I didn’t see him, so I called him and he didn’t answer,” Oride’s mother, Alesha Silas-Washington said.

Shortly after Washington heard gun shots, she ran outside to see what was going on.

“My next door neighbor came out too and I said those shots were loud, I said did you hear the shots and he said, yes someone is laying in the middle of the parking lot.”

Nothing could have prepared her for what she saw. She saw her only son, gasping for air. She relives trying to save his life.

“I checked for his pulse, and so I begin to give him CPR, and I’m calling 911, I’m hysterical because it’s my son. They said he was gone.”

Ordie was shot outside an apartment building on East Main Street around 11 p.m. Alesha says it’s a nightmare she can’t wake up from.

“Is it fair to me to have to bury my only son because someone had trouble with him, when it could have been resolved?”

Alesha says Ordi, who went by “Duda” was full of love and always wanted to help people.

“He was a very loving brother, a very loving son, he was just devoted to helping everybody out.”

Ordi leaves behind a 14-year-old son, two dogs and his sisters.

She has a message for his killer.

“Stop running, and not only that, stop violence, we can talk it out, what happened to love, what happened to conflict resolution, we have way too many resources available today.”

Washington says her son made mistakes in the past and was trying to become a better person.

“Me and him got baptized at church. It’s not like he was a bad person being that he got shot in July, he was trying to give his life back to the lord and do the right thing because God granted him another chance.”

Police are still searching for his killer. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
