ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The city celebrated both Columbus and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The holidays brought events all over the Rochester area.

The Italian-American community held its annual Columbus Day luncheon in Gates on Monday afternoon.
Community members, leaders, and officials were there to unite and celebrate their heritage all while sharing an Italian meal.

Quintino Dicesare, president of the Rochester Italian Civic League said: “We celebrate for a long long time this holiday today. We celebrate Columbus Day and our Italian heritage too, we have so many thousands and thousands of Italian people here in Rochester.”

Cosmo Giunta, the Gates Town Supervisor said: “We’re here to celebrate that. Our people, our culture, we want to be included.”

The organizers say it’s important to remember the Italians who came here to have a better life.
