Man will appear in court in January in connection to death of pedestrian on Park Ave

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police say the man will appear in court in January after he was accused of striking and killing 42-year-old Edgar SantaCruz with his car, then leaving the scene.

SantaCruz was walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of Park Avenue and South Goodman Street when a car struck him on Thursday night. SantaCruz died after being rushed to URMC and the dog died at the scene.

SantaCruz was an adult social worker known for his dedication to serving his community through Foodlink and Cameron Community Ministries.

RPD identified Master Bevel, 37 of Rochester, as the driver. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a class D felony, and will appear in Rochester City Court on January 11.

Officers responded to the accident around 6 p.m. RPD says they found Bevel and took him into custody shortly after and he is cooperating with the investigation into the cause of the accident.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call 911.
