ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Open Door Mission in Rochester is helping those most in need during the holidays.
The Open Door Mission served free grab-and-go meals to the homeless on Thanksgiving. It also welcomed people inside its location on West Main Street to enjoy a sit down meal.
Organizers say they are expecting more people seeking help during this year’s meals.
“This is one of the safest places and we’re all actually family here. We just have a great roster of guests that use our services and this is home for them,” said Robert Williams, the vice president of operations at the Open Door Mission. “…We couldn’t do what we do without our volunteers. I call them The Big V. We have mission driven volunteers who’ve been supporting even this particular event for the last 15 or 20 years, just over and over.”
The Open Door Mission provides 60 to 70 beds every night for Rochester’s homeless population.
