ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Not everyone can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday at home. Patients at the Golisano Rehabilitation Center at Unity Hospital were treated to a special Thanksgiving feast.
Those recovering from neurological injuries were joined by members of their families. The patients helped prepare meals themselves.
“They can still do the things they did before with an injury, or if they’re rehabbing through whether it be a stroke or a brain injury, a surgery, teaching them adaptive ways to be in the kitchen,” said speech pathologist Angela Ferro-Ford. “Cooking maybe with an impaired limb, arm or leg, how to move around, and what we can teach them to be successful in the kitchen.”
This is the first Thanksgiving event held in-person at the center since the pandemic hit.
