Murder victim at Joseph Avenue corner store identified

Update: On September 5, 2022, at about 12:15 a.m. Rochester Police Officers responded to the Joseph Xpress convenience store at 646 Joseph Ave for the report of a male shot. When officers arrived they found 24-year-old Isaiah Fleming, a City Resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. Store employees attempted life-saving measures until an ambulance arrived, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation showed that Isaiah Fleming and an unknown suspect had a verbal altercation in the store. The altercation turned physical, then the suspect shot Fleming. At this time it is not known why the argument occurred. No additional information will be released at this time.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Police said a man in 20s was fatally shot and found inside a corner store on Joseph Avenue near Clifford Avenue early Monday morning.

Rochester police got the call just after midnight for a report of a man shot. When they arrived, they found a man who died from an upper-body gunshot wound. Officers are investigating the homicide and anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Just minutes before the shooting, police responded to a 38-year-old man who was stabbed in a tent on nearby Loomis street. An ambulance took him to Strong Hospital and he is expected to survive. RPD confirmed that the homicide and the stabbing are not connected in any way.

The shooting on Joseph Avenue was the 55th homicide of 2022, according to the RPD Open Data Portal.
